Orpheus Choral seeking new members

New members are being recruited into the Orpheus Choral Society and are invited to attend rehearsal every Tuesday starting September 9th. The Orpheus choral group sings contemporary, patriotic and spiritual music at local venues. Orpheus was first founded in 1919 by a group of Welsh coal miners and has since become a chorus of men and women who enjoy promoting and developing musical culture through the art of vocal music.

Carol Ansett, Musical Director, invites all persons who enjoy singing to join the group. Mountain View Church of the Nazarene is a three year old church which is undergoing a change in leadership. As a result of this change we are hoping to create a worship team to help lead Sunday morning worship through playing contemporary worship music. We have recently been using the iWorship DVDs. Our new pastor plays guitar and drums however if enough musicians are found he would prefer to take a backseat and focus on duties during the worship service. We also have a drummer in the congregation so we are basically looking for vocalists, a guitarist, a bassist and possibly a keyboardist.

Our worship service is at 9:00 AM and runs approximately until 10:30 AM so there is the possibility that a person who attends elsewhere could come and play then depart for their home church although this wouldn't be the ideal scenario.

At the moment Mountain View averages about 30 people in worship but we are hoping that adding live music might be one avenue to help to grow the church.

We are a small troupe of dedicated performers in NYC and abroad seeking to create a new show with a new cast in 09. Even though we're looking at a few months until the casting calls which will be held in NYC, NJ and possibly in NEPA*, please do keep in mind that we will be asking to see the following at the auditions if you are chosen:

Experienced Dancers:

Please bring a Headshot/Resume and be dressed and prepared to move, preferably in character or heeled shoes. Warm up time will be provided. If you have accessories or a specialization (acro/fire poi/fan dance/pole dance/baton/glow sticks/hula/fire hoop/pointe etc etc) please bring these items with you to the audition. You may also be asked to learn a simple floor sequence, but above all be prepared to show us your best personal tricks, jumps, leaps, flips and strongest style of dance. Partial nudity/full out Burlesque finales will not be required whatsoever, but if you are comfortable doing it during your improv/personal routine, you are more than welcome to. Partnering and lift moves may be used as well.

An X-pole will be provided for the audition, pending the ceilings height @ the studio we settle on, as well as burlesque style Sally Rand feather fans.

Experienced Singers:

Please bring a Headshot/Resume and also be dressed and prepared to move preferably in a character or heeled shoe, even if you are just auditioning for the cabaret section we need to see what your shape is, please dress accordingly. Also feel free to bring personal props if you feel comfortable using them. We will ask for a sultry or cabaret belt style number, please have 16 bars prepared. Improv with movement is welcome as well.

As a note CD and Stereo System is available for those who have a specific song recorded on CD if they wish to use it during their piece(s). We're also working on confirming the piano & its accompaniest for our NJ and possible NEPA call.

Fire Eaters/Pole Dancers/Jugglers and Misc. Performers and Tatoo/Cirque Freaks etc: Please come prepared to show us your best, and keep in mind our style.

Also, as we would be working in an on stage/cabaret/cirque environment we do wish to see you in nightclub/dancer/cirque makeup. We realize driving your car here or taking the subway in full night stalker regalia may not be the best thing for you to do, so you will be given time before and after to apply and remove at the studio/theatre space.

If chosen to be considered for auditions, you will be contacted with call dates.

As for the tech and crew people interested, we'd appreciate meeting you in person as well. We love to get a feel for the people working with us behind the scenes technically and creatively while considering them for the show and in person effort is always appreciated! We are looking for a bass player to get the ball rolling. We plan on doing mostly covers with some originals for now, and eventually writing more songs and focusing more on originals. We go over the rock map from classic rock, to alternative, to some blues. Good practice space.
